{"id":9,"date":"2011-01-29T04:00:14","date_gmt":"2011-01-29T04:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nikthinks.com\/?page_id=9"},"modified":"2011-01-29T04:00:14","modified_gmt":"2011-01-29T04:00:14","slug":"measuring-information-flow-in-a-social-circuit","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.nikthinks.com\/?page_id=9","title":{"rendered":"Measuring Information Flow in A Social Circuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Consider a basic information flow structure in a social scene<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tFive persons (A,B,C,D,E) standing in a row<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tEach person can only communicate with the next person in row.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tIf all individuals are of same status \/ caliber, Will there be any significant information flow from person A to person E?<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tProbably not much, no one has much to share, the usual boring people! <\/p>\n<p>A\tB\tC\tD\tE<\/p>\n<p><strong>Information flows from higher potential people \/ event to lower potential people<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tIf in the human chain, Mr. A gets replaced by President Obama P- a person of higher potential (by the virtue of his powers as president).<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tWould Mr. E at the other end of the chain, know the presence of Mr. President? Yes in a short while, as the news spreads. <\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tBut did Mr. E knew about the presence of Mr. A in the chain? Very likely the answer is \u00e2\u20ac\u0153No\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. As all persons were assumed to be of same social status (the usual kind). <\/p>\n<p>P \tB \tC \tD\tE<\/p>\n<p><strong>Measuring resistance to the Information Flow \u00e2\u20ac\u201c measuring knowledge in context to information and other social physical barriers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tGreater the Knowledge (K) of individuals facilitating the information flow, lower will be the resistance (R) to information flow.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tThe information will get diffused and distorted if the number of individuals (N) (in series) in the chain increase. This will be due to lack of unified focused knowledge with respect to information flow.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tInformation flow through a social structure requires a minimum social bonding (m)between the individuals of a structure to facilitate information flow.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tConsidering the above factors, Resistance to the flow of information can be defined as below<br \/>\n             \t\t\t\t   R=m*(N\/K)<br \/>\nm is a constant of SOCIAL BONDING  between the N individuals and K collective knowledge in context to information flow.<\/p>\n<p>By measuring potential of information and the resistance to the flow of information, we can create heat maps of information flow in a digital social structure.
